Harlandale ISD Board of Trustees appointed Norma Cavazos to fill the Single Member District Four (4) vacancy during a regular board meeting on Aug. 19.

Cavazos is an active Harlandale community member and is a court coordinator at the Bexar County Courthouse with more than 20 years in the legal field. She earned a bachelor’s degree in human resources from the University of the Incarnate Word.

“I am very excited to have been appointed as District 4’s newest board member and be part of the great team of dedicated staff throughout the district that has brought Harlandale ISD to a B rating with the State,” Cavazos said. “My goal is to support a shared vision that promotes enhanced student achievement, effectively communicate our vision, advocate for our district’s needs and support our superintendent to lead the district towards excellence!”

The new board member replaces David Abundis, who stepped down from his position on July 16.

“I fully understand that this position comes with great responsibility, and I do not take my new appointment lightly.  It is my genuine intention to make Harlandale ISD a priority by continuing to support all of our students, parents, educators and citizens, of not only District 4, but also all of the HISD community,” Cavazos concluded.

Cavazos is also a proud Harlandale parent. Her son will be a senior and her daughter will be a sophomore at McCollum High School this school year.
