I am the RtI interventionist. RtI is Response to Intervention. This is a program created to fill in the gaps of students performing below grade level in reading and math. With interventions most children reach grade level expectations.
I became the RtI interventionist in 2015 after teaching at Gillette for 15 years. I taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade self-contained and 4th grade ELAR when the school departmentalized. In the past, I had taught from elementary to high school grades.
RtI is an important component of teaching because some students just need a little help to understand or comprehend the on level materials in reading and math.
My job is to give them that help and encourage them so that they have good self-esteem and know that they can complete grade level expectations.
In addition, I love interacting with the students as they instruct me on the songs, videos, and happenings that are popular with the age group.
I always see progress in the students I help and look forward to this school year no matter how different it may be.
