Hello I am Mrs. Rivas! Living my entire life in the Harlandale school district, I went to Stonewall Elementary, Leal Middle School, then Harlandale High School. This is my 16th year with HISD. I was first hired for a long term sub position in a life skills unit at Scheh but the following year I moved on as an instructional aide at Gillette while I completed my degree. I joined my Carroll Bell family in 2006 as a 3rd Grade bilingual teacher. I spent 9 years in that role and since have taught 2nd for 2 years and a little bit of 4th and 5th when needed. My current title at Carroll Bell is "Response to Intervention Teacher". This role however, is not limited to RTI as I offer myself to participate in as many areas of support as possible. I am "in it" with all teachers and staff and purposefully do what is right for kids! Fortunately, because I am the RTI teacher, I am able to support student learning in any academic area- which demands that I maintain a level of content knowledge across all grade levels. My direct role with RTI involves establishing modified plans of instruction that bridge the learning gaps that students may have. Usually my work with a particular student lasts approximately 6 weeks but may also span the course of several months. The support is all dependent on their progress. During any given year I instruct 50-70 students and I make every effort to grow them academically. My role as an RTI teacher may not be limited to students. There are times when a classroom teacher may need some support. I am happy to share any and all my strategies to support my colleagues.
