Harlandale Independent School District formally appointed Gerardo Soto as Superintendent of Schools on December 30, 2019. He was named as the proposed lone finalist at the school board meeting on December 6 and the board of trustees approved his contract during a special called board meeting on Monday Dec. 31, 2019. He officially began his duties as Superintendent on  Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2019.

Prior to his appointment as superintendent, Soto served as the District’s Executive Director for Maintenance and Operations and has worked in public education for 29 years. In that role, he oversaw departments at the core of Harlandale ISD’s mission to advance intricate district operations for its 14,000+ students. He is passionate about education and preparing all students for a college, career, military and work life.

Soto earned his bachelor of arts in exercise and sports science from St. Mary’s University, a master of science in educational administration from Texas A&M Kingsville and his superintendent certification from Texas A&M San Antonio.
