SAN ANTONIO-JULY 9, 2020 HISD TO PURCHASE NEW DEVICES FOR REMOTE LEARNING AND PREVENTIVE MATERIAL FOR IN PERSON INSTRUCTION
On Thursday night the Harlandale ISD approved the purchase of new devices to be used by students for remote learning for the school year 2020-2021.
HISD will be purchasing 8,500 Chromebooks to be used by students from 3rd grade to 12th grade.
“The purchase of these Chromebook will allow our students to complete their everyday assignments while in remote learning. As a Google district we know that having a Chromebook will facilitate the access to information and learning material from both our teachers and our students,” said HISD’S Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Melissa Casey.
The purchase of 400 new iPads was also approved by the board on Thursday evening for students K-2nd grade.
“We will be putting all the appropriate applications and programs on these iPads for our younger students in order for them to continue learning through our remote method,” Executive Director of Human Resources Dr. Salinas said.
Along with the purchase of these devices, the purchase of covers for both the Chromebooks and the iPads was approved.
Another important motion that was passed Thursday evening is the purchase of Plexiglas desktop barriers. A total of $660,000 will be spent installing these barriers in order to ensure the safety of the students during the current COVID-19 conditions.
“We believe these barriers will help further protect our students and our teachers. We are making sure we take every precaution necessary for the safety and well-being of our students, parents and staff,”said Harlandale ISD’s Superintendent Gerardo Soto.
All of these purchases will be made for the 2020-2021 school year.
