On Tuesday, June 23, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) released information about the reopening of schools for the 2020-21 school year, specifically in regards to remote learning. We want you to know that we have analyzed the options given to us in order to provide the best education possible for all Harlandale ISD students beginning August 5, 2020.
The three methods of learning that have been approved are as follows:
Remote Synchronous Instruction-Two-way learning, meaning live virtual instruction between teachers and students.
Remote Asynchronous Instruction- Various forms of digital learning such as prerecorded video lessons and pre-assigned work.
As a district we are considering In-Person Instruction and Remote Asynchronous Instruction for all grades. We ask that you give us a few weeks in order to better explain to you what this will look like and give you the best learning plan of education for your child.
Student attendance will be a critical piece of our plan for student success next school year. Even though this past spring the TEA loosened its rules on daily attendance, they have made it very clear that regardless of what method of learning is used, daily attendance will be taken and truancy policies will be in effect.
As far as health guidelines for in person instruction, the TEA is still working on developing them and we will be notified soon. The safety of our students and staff is of upmost importance.
We want you to know that we are sharing updates and information with you as soon as it is being released to us. Please be patient with us as we are trying to adapt to this new norm and we are working hard to make the best decisions possible for your child’s education.
