Perfect Attendance

Attendance drives student success and state funding for pubic schools in Texas. Public schools receive funding from the state by average daily attendance of students. Students gain academic and social strength with good attendance. "Texas has a compulsory attendance law that requires students to attend school regularly, with potential consequences for excessive absences."

Beginning October 14 and running through December 18, 2024 Gillette Elementary is taking notice and rewarding students with perfect attendance (no absences). Rewards will be given at intervals of two to three weeks. Rewards include paletas/popsicles, dessert after lunch, hot chocolate and s'mores, and a chance to give Coach Aguilar and Dr. Zepeda a pie in the face! There are also academic rewards. "Research shows a strong correlation between regular attendance and higher academic achievement, as students miss valuable learning time when absent."
