Harlandale ISD 5th Grade Transition Symposium

Incoming 6th grade students from across the District recently participated in the district’s 5th Grade Transition Symposium held at the Texas A&M University-San Antonio campus.

The symposium was designed to help students prepare for the transition to middle school while also introducing them to future college and career opportunities available through Harlandale ISD partnerships and programs.

During the event, students toured the university campus, participated in time management activities and connected with current middle school students during an interactive panel discussion focused on the transition to middle school. Students had the opportunity to ask questions, hear advice from their peers and learn strategies for success as they prepare for the next step in their educational journey.

Students were also welcomed with a special performance by the Terrell Wells Middle School Mariachi, showcasing the talent and pride found throughout Harlandale ISD schools.

Superintendent Mr. Gerardo Soto spoke to students about the partnership between Harlandale Independent School District and Texas A&M University-San Antonio, which provides students with opportunities to receive mentoring, access university resources and begin earning college credit as early as 9th grade.

Through the district’s continued collaboration with Texas A&M University-San Antonio, Harlandale ISD students are exposed to college pathways early and encouraged to begin planning for higher education and future careers.

Harlandale ISD looks forward to welcoming the remaining 5th grade students to the symposium on May 26.
