Assistance with Rent and Utilities for City of San Antonio Residents
The Neighborhood and Housing Services Department (NHSD) expresses our gratitude for your continued support of the Housing Assistance Program (HAP) and our efforts to help keep families housed.
NHSD will begin accepting Rental Assistance applications starting Wednesday, November 20th at 1:00 p.m., via a portal link available on the NHSD Rental Assistance webpage. The portal will remain open until a predetermined number of applications have been received. To enhance service delivery to eligible residents, we have updated the online application process to include prescreening, which aims to expedite the support provided to residents. NHSD will offer monthly application openings to ensure that rental assistance is available throughout the year, rather than restricting the application window to only two or three times annually.
Eligible applicants residing in San Antonio may continue to qualify for rental assistance covering up to three consecutive months, which can include past due, current, and future rent, with a maximum total of $3,500. Additionally, applicants may receive up to $1,500 for utility assistance. Applicants who have received rental assistance from NHSD programs within the past 12 months will not be eligible for a new award.
NHSD is committed to assisting people in need by offering a range of resources. We are currently accepting applications for the Resident Relocation Assistance Program. Additionally, the Eviction Intervention Team is actively engaged within the Bexar County Precinct Courts, providing up-to-date information on intervention services and free legal aid resources.
