Join us in congratulating Elia Rios, a 3rd grade student from Adams Elementary, for winning 1st place in the Harlandale District Science Fair!
With the guidance of her science teacher, Ms. Lopez, Elia put popular laundry detergents, TIDE and HEB's Hill Country Faire, to the test!
Her experiment not only revealed that the HCF brand leaves your laundry cleaner, but it is also more cost effective!
Way to go Elia! We are so proud of your curiosity, hard work, and scientific discovery!

The clock is ticking!
Our 2025 Cultural Arts Fair Cover Design Contest is still open, but the deadline is quickly approaching! This year's theme, "Mosaic of Cultures | Mosaico de Culturas," was inspired by 1st grade student Bradley Gonzales. Whether it’s a construction paper mosaic, painted tiles, or even photography, encourage your child to get creative and submit their artwork.
Don't miss the chance for your child's design to be featured on this year's Cultural Arts program cover!

As we wrap up National School Counseling Week, we are happy to spotlight Mr. Preston “Bubba” Adams, a dedicated counselor at Frank Tejeda Academy.
Mr. Adams has been a valued member of Harlandale ISD for more than three decades, spending 19 years at McCollum High School before bringing his expertise and heart to Frank Tejeda Academy, where he has served as a counselor for the past 12 years.
One of the most memorable moments in his career came when he counseled a student who doubted her ability to succeed in college. Mr. Adams reassured her that success was not only possible but within reach. Years later, she returned to his office, diploma in hand, beaming with pride as she said, “Mr. Adams, I did it. I’m a registered nurse.” It’s moments like these that fuel his passion for counseling.
Fun fact: Mr. Adams has never owned a cell phone!
Thank you, Mr. Adams, and all of our incredible Harlandale ISD counselors for your dedication, and the lasting impact you make in the lives of our students every single day.

This week, we continue to celebrate the incredible school counselors who make a difference in our students' lives every day! Today, we’re shining a spotlight on Ms. Bryna Cardenas, counselor at Leal Middle School!
Meet Ms. Bryna Cardenas – Leal Middle School Counselor
Born and raised in San Antonio, Ms. Cardenas is a proud product of the Southside. After graduating from South San High School, she pursued her passion for education by earning her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Our Lady of the Lake University in 2008. She spent 10 years shaping young minds as a Pre-K, Kinder, and 3rd-grade teacher before earning her Master’s in Counseling from Texas A&M San Antonio.
Ms. Cardenas has been a dedicated counselor at Harlandale ISD for six years and just last year she transferred to Leal Middle School, where she had an unforgettable experience—reuniting with students she once taught in elementary school! Seeing familiar faces in her 8th-grade class was a special moment, as the bonds she built years ago helped students feel comfortable opening up about their emotions, challenges, and future goals. She describes it as a blessing in disguise to be part of their journey once again and to help send them off to high school with confidence.
Fun fact: Ms. Cardenas is a rock music fan who loves attending rock concerts!
Stay tuned as we celebrate members of our amazing counseling team!
