April is Autism awareness month and we shine a light on the important ways public schools support students with special learning needs.
•Every student deserves the chance to learn and thrive. Thanks to federal law and Texas regulations, students with autism get the personalized support they need to shine in school and beyond.
•The federal IDEA law (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) guarantees Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) for those needing extra help.
Texas Schools Are Here to Help
•Texas public schools support over 70,000 students with autism annually, making up more than 13% of all special education students. (TEA)
•Specialized Learning Plans
•Recognizing the unique needs of students with autism, Texas schools follow specific rules to address these in the IEP (Individualized Education Plan), notably through the Autism Supplement.
What’s the Autism Supplement?
•The Autism Supplement guides educators with research-based practices to help students with autism succeed, providing teachers with essential tools for top-notch education.
Why It Matters
•Every student deserves to thrive. IDEA and Texas regulations ensure students with autism receive personalized support to excel in school and beyond.
#CelebrateTexasPublicSchools

Today we recognize the heart of our campuses and departments—our administrative professionals. Your attention to detail, steady support and behind-the-scenes work make an immense impact. Thank you for all that you bring to Harlandale ISD!

Today is School Bus Driver Appreciation Day, and we are especially grateful for the dedicated drivers who do more than get students from point A to B—they help deliver opportunity!
Recently, several of our drivers got a chance to tour our Career and Technical Education Center (CTE) at Carroll Bell and saw firsthand the impact their work makes. From welding labs to HVAC classrooms, to computer programming and cybersecurity labs, and even dental and barbering training, they witnessed how students step into futures full of promise—and realized the daily role they play in helping them get there.
Thank you to all our school bus drivers for your commitment, care and the pride you take in supporting our students’ journeys.
#HarlandaleLegacy

Reminder: Classes resume tomorrow, April 22, 2025
We hope our students had a restful long break!
