Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Harlandale ISD Mariachi Festival at McCollum High School. Students from across our elementary, middle and high schools filled the day with incredible performances, showcasing the talent, pride and tradition of our mariachi programs.
Families enjoyed great music, food and time together as we celebrated our students and the rich cultural roots that make Harlandale ISD so special. We’re grateful for our musicians, directors, staff and community for making this event such a success and we can’t wait to do it again next year!
Recognitions included:
> CPS Representative, Mr. Robert Olivares, presented a $55,000 check reflecting the District's energy conservation performance during its participation in CPS Energy's Demand Response program.
> Dr. James Hernandez for being the recipient of the Ron Moore Award by the Alamo AFCEA Chapter and Education Foundation for his outstanding service and contribution to STEM education in our area.
> Mr. Daniel Peña for being named Department of Defense STEM Ambassador, which only one of 30 educators are selected nationwide!
> Octavia Orta and Nader Vasheghani, students in Mr. Daniel Peña’s cybersecurity classes, for earning first and second place in the Cyber Threat Defender Custom Card Design Challenge hosted by UTSA’s Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security.

> El representante de CPS Energy, Don Robert Olivares, entregó un cheque de $55,000, que refleja el desempeño del Distrito en la conservación de energía durante su participación en el programa de Respuesta a la Demanda de CPS Energy.
> Dr. James Hernandez, por haber recibido el Premio Ron Moore otorgado por el Capítulo Alamo de AFCEA y la Fundación para la Educación, por su destacado servicio y contribución a la educación STEM en nuestra área.
> Don Daniel Peña, por haber sido nombrado Embajador STEM del Departamento de Defensa, ¡un reconocimiento que solo reciben 30 educadores en todo el país!

Together, they helped brighten the holiday season for 100 families and 219 students!

While the match came down to the wire, the experience highlighted important skills that esports competitions are all about: Teamwork, focus, discipline and perseverance. It is through such competitions that our students continue to build their communication skills and develop strategic thinking which extend far beyond the screen.
We’re proud of our players for representing Harlandale ISD with dedication and sportsmanship and look forward to what’s ahead as they continue to grow together.

Nuestro equipo de eSports de los Harlandale Indians, compuesto por Javier Medina, Christopher Dumbauskas y Khaleb Sanchez, compitió recientemente en el Campeonato de Equipos de Super Smash Bros., enfrentándose a un fuerte equipo de Houston bajo la dirección del entrenador David Romero.
Aunque el partido fuè muy reñido, la experiencia manifiestò habilidades importantes que son fundamentales en las competencias de eSports: trabajo en equipo, concentración, disciplina y perseverancia. Es a través de este tipo de competencias que nuestros estudiantes continúan desarrollando sus habilidades de comunicación y su pensamiento estratégico, las cuales trascienden la pantalla.
Estamos orgullosos de nuestros jugadores al representar a Harlandale ISD con dedicación y deportividad, y esperamos con entusiasmo su continuo crecimiento como equipo.

The Harlandale ISD Police Department is once again spreading holiday cheer through its annual Toy Drive to benefit Harlandale ISD students in grades K–12. Collection will go through December 8, and we invite our community to donate new, unwrapped toys to help brighten the holidays for children across the district.

Harlandale ISD is proud to celebrate Schulze Elementary School Counselor Roxane Lopez on receiving the Texas School Counseling Association CREST Award for the third year in a row! This honor recognizes her outstanding Comprehensive School Counseling and the meaningful impact it continues to have on her students and school community.
Ms. Lopez will be formally recognized at the TSCA Annual School Counselor Conference in Fort Worth in February 2026. We are grateful for her dedication, leadership and advocacy for students. Congratulations on this well-deserved achievement.
